Riverkings go into the summer break with a strong performance

HC Landsberg only lost to the promotion favourites from Erding in the seventh game of the play-offs in the Bavarian Ice Hockey League and go into the summer break with a strong performance. Shortly beforehand, the club had already announced the contract extension with its top scorer Victor Östling for the 2025/26 season.

The 29-year-old Swede, who moved from Leipzig (Oberliga) to Landsberg, impressed as one of the best forwards in the league with 52 points from 29 games. 'Victor was one of the guarantors of our success, we are very happy that he will stay with us,' said HCL Vice President Michael Grundei. 'He's also working with the youngsters and is doing a great job here too.' Östling himself was also pleased: 'My partner and I like it very much in Landsberg, the city simply has a high quality of life. We have a young team that can certainly finish a little further up the table next season, and I want to play my part in that.'

Östling also scored reliably in the play-off series against Erding, but it wasn't quite enough for the Riverkings to reach the semi-finals. However, it was a surprise that they were able to force the Gladiators from Erding into game seven at all. Landsberg fended off the first match point for Erding with a dramatic home win in game six. In front of over 2000 spectators in the Landsberg ice rink, Grözinger and Reicheneder scored for the HCL to make it 2:2 before Manuel Müller scored the much-celebrated 3:2 winner after a counter-attack.

In the all-important game seven in Erding, Frantisek Wagner equalised 1:1 for Landsberg, but with two goals in the second period, the hosts ultimately secured their place in the semi-finals and the HCL were unable to do anything about it. Nevertheless, the almost 600 Landsberg fans who had travelled with them celebrated the team and coach long after the final whistle for an outstanding performance in the final phase of the season. 'I'm very proud of the team, which was tactically disciplined, passionate and powerful throughout the series,' said a satisfied coach Martin Hoffmann. 'I think that's also what the spectators celebrated with their great support.'
